Kankawa Nagarra

Olive Knight

Olive is a Walmajarri woman who also has Bunuba heritage.

She was born in Bohemia Downs Station in 1946 and spent her youth at Chestnut Bore and Go Go Station.

Her primary education was at the United Aborigines Mission School in Fitzroy Crossing and at Go Go Cave School.

As an adult she completed a certificate in Health Worker Practices and a BA in Applied Sciences.

She is a fluent reader and writer of Walmajarri and an accredited interpreter/translator and helped write the first version of the Walmajarri Dictionary.

As a young teenager, she worked as a servant girl on Jubilee Station for no wage and given only rough boarding, basic food and clothing.

She has overcome this cruel start in life to become an acclaimed blues singer and songwriter and, in 2011, appeared in Hugh Jackman's Back on Broadway show in New York and around the world.

She is a wonderful advocate for her people and wants to see their lives improved in a meaningful way by forming positive connections and understanding with the broader Australian community.

Dillon Andrews

Dillon (also known Jimmy) is a Walmajarri man who also has Bunuba heritage.

Born at Moula Boula Station in 1952, Dillon spent his youth at Chestnut Bore and Leopold Station.

His primary education was at the United Aborigines Mission School in Fitzroy Crossing and at Derby Tech School up to year 10.

Dillon was a horse trainer in his early days and worked on many stations across the Fitzroy Valley in the 60s and 70s.

Dillon is a well-respected Elder in the Community with his stepfather, Adam Andrews, passing down the cultural knowledge of the Oscar Ranges.

He started one of the earliest tourist operations in the Fitzroy Valley, called Bungoolee Tours, Dillon has taken thousands of tourists through Tunnel Creek and Winjana Gorge.

He is also the keeper of the Jandamarra story.

Jane Bieundurry

Born in 1967 Jane is the daughter of Olive Knight.

A Walmajarri woman with Bunuba links to the Daringunaya Community near the old causeway crossing of the Fitzroy River.

Jane spent her early childhood in Fitzroy Crossing Mission and travelled widely with Olive and her father through New Guinea and other places outside the Fitzroy Valley.

She went to boarding school in Derby in 1980 and then to Perth, where she completed Year 11.

Jane's experience in building and running a small business in the Fitzroy Valley demonstrates that she has the necessary experience to ensure a high-quality package is delivered.

Patsy Ngalu Bedford

Patsy is a Bunuba woman and lives in Fitzroy Crossing.

Patsy is the Chair of the Kimberley Language Resource Centre and a member of the Language Policy Partnership – a group made up of Coalition of Peak Leaders.

She is also a Board Member of Marminwarntikura Women's Resource Centre in Fitzroy Crossing.

When she was nine years old, she was stolen from her family by the Department of Native Welfare and taken to The Mission at Fitzroy Crossing and later to Halls Creek.

She continued her education at Melbourne University.
